Zinc deficiency is one of the most common and most overlooked nutrient insufficiencies I see in clinical practice. It doesn't show up on standard GP blood panels, it mimics a dozen other conditions, and by the time you're symptomatic, you've usually been depleted for months. The signs are hiding in plain sight: you catch every cold going around, your nails are weak or ridged, you have reflux or low stomach acid, your skin won't heal, your mood is flat, brain fog is constant, and your hormones are off. Zinc is involved in over 200 enzymatic pathways in the body — immune function, hormone production, DNA repair, gut integrity, neurotransmitter synthesis, and cellular division all depend on it. When zinc drops, everything downstream suffers.

The problem compounds itself: zinc deficiency impairs zinc absorption. Your gut needs zinc to maintain the integrity of its mucosal lining, and a compromised gut absorbs less zinc from food. It's a vicious cycle, and it's why eating more oysters and pumpkin seeds often isn't enough once you're genuinely depleted. You need a bioavailable supplemental form at a therapeutic dose to break the cycle and restore levels.

BePure Zinc Restore uses zinc picolinate — one of the most bioavailable forms available. Picolinate is a naturally occurring amino acid metabolite that the body produces in the pancreas specifically to facilitate mineral absorption. When zinc is bound to picolinic acid, it moves through the gut wall more efficiently than oxide, sulphate, or even citrate forms. One capsule per day. No loading protocol required.

HOW THE FORMULA WORKS

This isn't just zinc in a capsule. BePure has built absorption support directly into the formula:

Zinc (elemental) as Zinc Picolinate — 15mg: the therapeutic core. 15mg of elemental zinc in picolinate form is a meaningful repletion dose. The RDI in New Zealand is 8mg for women and 14mg for men, but those numbers assume optimal absorption, which most people don't have. This delivers enough to restore depleted levels without causing the nausea or copper depletion that higher doses (40mg+) can trigger.

Total Vitamin C — 502mg (buffered): delivered as a combination of ascorbic acid (300mg), magnesium ascorbate (134mg), and calcium ascorbate (68mg). Vitamin C is a proven absorption enhancer for zinc — it creates an acidic environment in the upper small intestine that keeps zinc in its ionised, absorbable form. The buffered delivery (using magnesium and calcium salts) prevents the gastric irritation that straight ascorbic acid at this dose can cause. You're also getting a solid vitamin C dose in its own right — immune support, collagen synthesis, antioxidant defence.

Vitamin B6 as Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P) — 12.5mg: the active coenzyme form of B6, not the standard pyridoxine that requires liver conversion. B6 is a cofactor in zinc-dependent enzyme pathways and supports the neurotransmitter synthesis (serotonin, dopamine, GABA) that zinc enables. Including it here means you're supporting the downstream pathways that zinc unlocks, not just the zinc level itself.

Quercetin — 10mg: a flavonoid with anti-inflammatory and zinc ionophore properties. Quercetin helps shuttle zinc into cells — specifically, it facilitates zinc's transport across cell membranes into the intracellular space where it's actually needed for immune function and enzyme activity. This is the same mechanism that made quercetin + zinc a widely discussed combination during 2020-2021. At 10mg it's a supporting dose, not a standalone therapeutic dose, but in the context of this formula it's a smart addition.

INGREDIENTS PER DAILY SERVE (1 CAPSULE)

Zinc (elemental) as Zinc Picolinate — 15mg Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) — 300mg Magnesium Ascorbate — 150mg (providing 134mg Vitamin C) Calcium Ascorbate — 75mg (providing 68mg Vitamin C) Total Vitamin C — 502mg Vitamin B6 as Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate — 12.5mg Quercetin — 10mg Also contains: Hypromellose (capsule), vegetable stearate.

DIRECTIONS

Take 1 capsule daily with food. Always take with a meal — zinc on an empty stomach can cause nausea. For best absorption, take away from high-phytate foods (grains, nuts, seeds, coffee) as phytates bind zinc and reduce uptake. Take 2 hours before or after any prescription medication.

Safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Vegan. Free from gluten, dairy, soy, refined sugar, GMOs, artificial colours, flavours, and additives. Contains vitamin C derived from corn — avoid if corn-sensitive. Suitable for ages 9+ (ages 9-11: half adult dose as directed by practitioner).

WHO THIS IS FOR

Anyone with signs of zinc depletion: frequent illness, slow wound healing, weak/ridged nails, low stomach acid or reflux, hormonal imbalance, low mood, brain fog, poor skin, hair loss, or low appetite. Athletes and people who train hard (zinc is lost through sweat). Anyone under chronic stress (cortisol-driven zinc depletion). Women on the oral contraceptive pill (OCP depletes zinc). Anyone recovering from illness or surgery. Anyone whose blood work or zinc taste test confirms depletion.

If you're already taking BePure One — that contains a maintenance dose of zinc (15mg zinc gluconate). Zinc Restore is the repletion tool for when levels have dropped below maintenance range. Use Zinc Restore to bring levels back up, then BePure One to hold them there.

WHY I STOCK IT

Zinc is foundational. I test for it with every client, and I see depletion more often than not — especially in women, athletes, and anyone under sustained stress. The form matters: zinc picolinate absorbs meaningfully better than the oxide and sulphate forms that fill most supermarket shelves. BePure's decision to include 502mg of buffered vitamin C, active B6, and quercetin as a zinc ionophore means this isn't just a zinc supplement — it's a zinc absorption system. One capsule, once a day, with food. I pair it with Re:juvenate Pro for immune and cellular support, and BePure One as the daily maintenance multivitamin once zinc levels are restored.
