What is epigenetics?
Epigenetics is the study of mechanisms that switch genes on or off. This includes the influence of behaviours and environment which can cause changes affecting how your genes work. Unlike genetic changes, epigenetic changes can be influenced by making healthier lifestyle choices.
What is DNA methylation?
DNA methylation is the epigenetic mechanism used by the cells to control gene expression. It is the transfer of a group of atoms known as methyl group (CH3) to your DNA.
When optimal DNA methylation occurs, it has a significant positive impact on many biochemical reactions in the body that regulate the activity of the cardiovascular, neurological, reproductive and detoxification systems.
How your DNA becomes a report
There is DNA in your saliva, from cells in your mouth. Your DNA is extracted from your saliva sample in the lab, then processed to measure DNA methylation. The results are put into a report and emailed to you.
